SOCIAL CIRCLE, Ga. (AP) — Small game hunters across Georgia will soon be putting squirrel meat on their tables and in their freezers.
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says the squirrel hunting season opens Aug. 15. Licensed hunters are allowed to kill up to 12 gray or fox squirrels per day during the season.
John Bowers is chief of the Georgia DNR's Wildlife Resources Division Game Management Section. Bowers said in a news release that squirrel hunting is "part of a significant cultural hunting tradition in Georgia" that's also a good introduction to hunting for young people.
The squirrel hunting season in Georgia lasts through Feb. 29.
