Bluffton Christmas tree lighting held at DuBois Park

BLUFFTON, S.C.. (WTOC) - Bluffton is celebrating the holidays Friday night by lighting their Christmas tree in town.

Everyone was excited to be there. The grand marshal will be announced and the tree lighting will officially kick off the holiday season here in Bluffton. We spent the day with Santa’s helpers as they prepared the park for Friday night and asked Bluffton fans what’s so special about this Christmas tree lighting.

Up until just a few hours ahead of the Bluffton Christmas tree lighting, Santa’s helpers were busy hanging garland, lights, and putting trees together.

“My role was to come out and help decorate the tree," said Santa’s helper Kim Chapman. "We brought it in from North Carolina, we’ve decorated it with the glitter and balls that you see!”

Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka says the town has had a Christmas tree lighting since the 50′s. She says it’s one of her favorite events.

“Because we keep expanding on a great Bluffton mind idea,” she said.

This year the town has partnered up with light tonight, so businesses in town will stay open later.
