DARIEN, Ga. (WTOC) - An effort to clean up Darien’s waterfront is happening this weekend.
The local organization Keep McIntosh Beautiful is still looking for volunteers.
Darien’s waterfront is enjoyed by many, whether it be fishing, boating, walking or just taking in the view. A local organization in town hopes to keep the waterfront beautiful and clean with annual cleanup days.
Keep McIntosh Beautiful has a goal, promote a cleaner, greener McIntosh County.
The second annual Waterfront Cleanup Day is scheduled for Saturday - a way to help meet that goal.
Here’s how it will work. The organization and volunteers will go along Darien’s waterfront from Skippers to the park and pick up any trash.
The organization’s executive director says the littering problem isn’t horrible along the waterfront, but it could be better.
Last cleanup day volunteers picked up 17 bags of trash. They pulled tires, buckets and foam out of the water.
Brandi Fisher, with Keep McIntosh Beautiful says she encourages residents to come out as a cleaner, greener McIntosh County will only happen with the community’s help.
“With the water and river clean up, just having the trash out of the water for the animals and for everyone’s safety, and it just looks better too,” said Fisher.
The cleanup happens Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There’s no need to sign up, just bring gloves and a kayak if you have one.
