ORLANDO, Fla. (WTOC) - The Georgia Southern Eagles have landed in the Sunshine State for the team’s bowl game this weekend. They’ll take on Liberty in the Cure Bowl on Saturday.

Before kickoff though, the team will be getting the full bowl experience. The Eagles will be calling the Universal Resort’s Portofino Bay Hotel home this week.

Now just three days from kickoff, it’s not just about football.

Wednesday night the team will head over to Orlando’s City Walk for a welcome dinner and a night out. Then Thursday, they’ll get a day at Universal, riding the roller coasters, picking up a magic wand at Harry Potter World, all the good stuff.

It’s all a part of the reward that is the bowl game. That said, this team still wants to win. But they’re going to have a good time doing it.

“Used to, when I was young, I rode everything," said Head Coach Chad Lunsford. "I love roller coasters. I love all that. The only thing now is the stuff that spins I have a hard time with that now. Other than that, I’m a pretty tough guy.”

“I’m going to go down and have fun regardless, but there’s always a time to lock in," said Rashad Byrd, R-Jr. Linebacker. "Everybody locks in at different times. I’m just making sure everybody’s head is on right, and just enjoy the trip. It is a business trip, but we deserve this. We’ve worked hard to get to where we are right now.”

The Eagles can’t have too much fun Wednesday night. They’ll be back on the practice field Thursday morning at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando.

It’s the final full practice of the week for the team as they’ll have a closed walk through session at Exploria Stadium Friday morning.
