SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - They came in to go out. Your donations to the WTOC Toys for Tots Campaign already on their way to making Christmas wishes come true in the hands of Marines only briefly until they are given to children all across the Coastal Empire.
"When I was growing up, we did have a few Christmases where we got donations from different churches. After doing this for so many years, I can only assume they got them from the Marines. So, it feels good to give back to those kids who are in the same situation I was in,” U.S. Marine Corps LCPL. Justin Wilkinson.
The WTOC lobby couldn't contain your generosity this year. Boxes and bikes lining hallways; so much giving saying so much about those who gave. "It shows good nature. It shows there's still faith left, people still like helping. It's really nice to experience and see that people are that willing to help their community and help their neighbor, even though they don't even know who it's going to.”
And now the Marines will deliver these toys in time for Christmas, making sure thousands of families enjoy the season.
"You all did wonderful. You all did great. We've got a nice size box truck out there that we're going to play some Tetris with to get all these toys in there.”
"Everybody wants to have a good Christmas. No one wants to be in town and see the kid with the new bike and you're playing with jacks ... it's nice to be helping the community and it's amazing to see the community come together for this many toys.”
And to know what a month's work will deliver on Christmas morning.
"It’ll be amazing. I’ll know some kid is opening a drone that he would have never imagined getting. Or a kid who loves music is getting a keyboard or a guitar ... when they expect so little and they’re going to wake up and get the exact same thing they want; it’s going to be an amazing feeling.”
