SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Detectives with Savannah Police are investigating after an early morning shooting on Sunday left one dead and injured two others.
Officers found 25-year-old Tori Sterling and two others at the intersection W. 37th and Whitaker Streets around 2:15 a.m.
Sterling and another victim were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Sterling died upon arriving at the hospital. The third victim’s injuries were minor.
Detectives will investigate the shooting as an aggravated assault and homicide.
Neighbors in the area are taking a look at security camera footage to help them make a break in the case.
It was the call of a shooting that brought police to this area, but it’s not clear at this time if the shooting actually happened there.
Sterling's death marks 2019's 23rd homicide in the city of Savannah.
The past two years have seen similar numbers, but this year has been more violent in terms of aggravated assaults with and without guns.
Savannah Police Chief Roy Minter told City Council members during a third quarter public safety update earlier this month that there were at that point 90 victims of gun violence, about 20 more than the year before.
