CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Goodwill stores throughout South Carolina are asking for donations as you de-clutter for the new year.

“The past decade has seen tremendous growth in both donations and sales, and we expect a deluge of donations throughout our territory as residents de-clutter and minimize in preparation for 2020,” spokesperson for Palmetto Goodwill, Denver Merrill, said.

Goodwill stores tend to see more donations in the last few days of the year because people are looking to get a tax break. At many Goodwill stores, you do not even need to get out of your car to donate.

“End of the year donations are huge for Palmetto Goodwill," Merrill said. “They are the lifeblood of our organization. This time of the year we normally get about twice as many donations as we normally get every week. I think last year we got about 25,000 donations in this week alone."

Goodwill accepts donations of all kinds including clothing, shoes and accessories, as well as home items such as furniture, decor, kitchen items, small appliances and more.
