MCINTOSH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office said a SWAT team tried to serve a warrant at a mobile home near Wallace Drive and Belle Hammock Road on Thursday afternoon.
While they were on scene, the mobile home caught on fire.
No one was injured, and the person police were serving the warrant on was not found.
"I guess the SWAT team was walking around everywhere with guns,” the neighbor said. “Next thing you know they're running around."
A neighbor close to the owner of the trailer, who has asked not to be identified, says she saw flames and smoke.
The McIntosh County Volunteer Fire Department responded. The fire chief says crews were able to get the fire under control after about 30 minutes.
But the neighbor says the trailer caught fire again late Thursday night.
"They had two more trucks come out and I guess wet it down and get the fire finally back out again."
The sheriff's office says no injuries were reported, but the neighbor says fire investigators told her they found the owner's dog inside.
"He was probably ten years old. I mean, he was an older dog."
Fire investigators were at the scene early Friday morning.
The state fire marshal continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
