Rincon Police investigating after robbery in Towne Park East area

RINCON, Ga. (WTOC) - Surveillance images have been released of a suspect wanted for an armed robbery in Rincon.

Police say that they’re looking for a black man carrying a pink backpack, dressed in black, and armed. A Facebook post by the department says that he has a teardrop tattoo under one eye and has no facial hair. That post also says that the man was carrying an assault rifle.

Rincon Police Chief Jonathon Murrell says that they are unsure of what type of gun but referred to it as a “short-length long gun”.

Chief Murrell says that the robbery happened at Cash Advance on Towne Park Drive East on Wednesday. He says that the suspect entered the business around 9 a.m., duct-taped three employees, and forced them into the bathroom. He left shortly after, around 9:10 a.m.. The call for the robbery came in at 9:14 a.m..

Chief Murrell says video footage leads them to believe that the suspect fled northbound on Highway 21. He no longer believes that the man is still in the city limits of Rincon. The employees of the Cash Advance are unsure, but believe that the suspect left with $1,500-$2,000.

If anyone sees a suspect matching this description, please call 911 immediately.

Amy’s Vintage barbershop owner, Amy Nease says she’s been in business just feet away from the Cash Advance for a little over three years now and nothing like this has ever happened before.

"Next door used to be the Effingham County Herald and they were shot at twice since I’ve been here in the last three years, but other than that nothing really like that has ever happened,” Nease said.

She says though business may be back to normal, they are still taking no chances.

"It’s back to normal. Definitely safety is first here, everyone now has cameras inside and outside and I’m pretty sure everyone is locked and loaded,” Nease said.
