STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) - Strong winds caused damage to buildings Tuesday in Statesboro.
Lynn Bennett sent WTOC photos of some of the damage at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds on Fair Road.
Several Kiwanis Club members were in one building when they heard the storm pass through and parts of the roof tearing away. The worst was to the open air Pancake House where it pulled off half the metal. Bennett went outside and snapped these photos:
Club members found damage to some of the other buildings as well. Some wish this had happened at the end of 2019.
“The bad thing is we just replaced this roof two months ago. We replaced this one and several others,” said J.D. Dunn, with the Kiwanis Club.
The force of the wind snapped wood beams like they were twigs and sent some of them crashing into the roof of the main building.
Dunn says he knows people will argue whether this was a tornado or straight line winds or whatever. He says no matter what it was, they have damage they have to fix.
