CHATHAM CO., Ga. (WTOC) - UPDATE: A suspect wanted for an online scam was arrested Monday by the Chatham County Police Department.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Chatham County Police Department is warning residents about an online scam that is claiming victims just days before Christmas.

Detectives are looking for John Logan Hamm, who they believe is responsible. They believe Hamm is targeting people who are using the Offer Up e-commerce site. The seller claims to have a PlayStation 5 for sale and asks people to pay using Apple Pay, Venmo, and Cashapp. But when the payments are made, he never shows up to deliver the merchandise.

Chatham County Police say this is not the first time Hamm has been suspected of wrongdoing. He is currently wanted on charges of Identity Theft and Elder Abuse stemming from allegations that he stole a vehicle from an elderly relative and then sold it without permission.

Hamm is currently believed to be driving a stolen silver 2017 Chevy Cruise with Georgia license plate RHU 9729.

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of this scam or who has information on Hamm’s whereabouts should call Chatham County Police Department detectives at 912-651-4718 or CrimeStoppers at 912-234-2020. Tipsters are anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
