ATLANTA, Ga. (WTOC) - Calvary Day has won the first ever girls flag football championship in Georgia.
Calvary won the Class A-5A state title on Monday by defeating Portal 6-0.
The Cavaliers broke the scoreless tie midway in the second half when Hannah Cail found Katie Ellenwood for the touchdown.
The Panthers were driving deep in Cavalier territory late for a game-tying score, but Neveah Hamilton made a leaping interception with 1:30 to play to seal it.
This was the first season flag football was a GHSA-sanctioned sport.
