SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Workers who’ve been at the Chatham County elections annex processing absentee ballots since 8 Tuesday morning, have been sent home for the night.
We’re told the process of working through around 3,000 to 4,000 absentee ballots that are still with the registrars office Tuesday night will begin Wednesday morning around 10. Those are absentee votes that came in Tuesday, not part of the tens of thousands that were processed ahead of this runoff Election Day.
So the work isn’t over yet here in Chatham County, and we likely won’t be the only county working through ballot processing in the morning, according to Chatham County’s Board of Elections Chairman, Tom Mahoney.
“I anticipate that those state-wide results are going to be very close. So if we’re talking about three or four thousand votes in Chatham County, I’m afraid that’s going to be significant in the state race. And I’m sure that we’re not going to be the only county that’s going to be counting a few thousand more votes tomorrow morning,” Mahoney said.
Mahoney again pointed out whatever votes they upload Tuesday night or process Wednesday to add to the total, that it’s unofficial and incomplete until they certify.
