SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Is one of your New Year’s resolution to follow a healthier lifestyle?
EnMarket is partnering with the non-profit Healthy Savannah to help. They are hosting a speaker series called Enmarket Encourage Health.
The next installment in the series is Thursday, January 7 at 1:00 p.m. Armand Turner, the Physical Activity Program Manager for Healthy Savannah and the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, will be the speaker. He’ll share strategies you can use to create routes to bike or walk to places you go every day. He’ll also discuss what the city of Savannah is doing and can do to make routes like this more accessible to all of its residents. Armand explained what motivated him to speak at this event.
“When we say activity-friendly routes to everyday destinations, we mean traveling to work, traveling to school, traveling to church or to the grocery store. And we know a lot of people are already biking and walking to these locations and so what we focus on is, ‘How can we make this safer? How can we make this more easy for them to continue to do so?’ Because we know the health benefits from it. We know how improving your physical activity can help prevent a lot of the diseases that a lot of the African-American community are currently suffering from, and so being part of that African American community myself I’m immediately inspired.”
The presentation is called “Activity-Friendly Routes to Everyday Destinations” and it’s free to watch. You can tune in live by going to Healthy Savannah’s Facebook Page.
