Bryan Co. Sheriff’s Office trying to identify attempted break-in suspect

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WTOC) - The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help in finding a man they say stole a package from someone’s doorstep, then tried to break into the house.

It all happened Sunday afternoon in a Richmond Hill neighborhood.

According to Detective Sgt. Jeff Davis, the suspect came up to the victim’s front door, took a package and then tried to break into the back door; and it was all caught on camera.

In the video you can see a man pull into the driveway, get out of what looks to be a white Acura and take a package from a house in a seemingly quiet neighborhood.

“The victim received a text message saying they had a package delivery, got home and the package was not there at the house,” Sgt. Davis said.

Sgt. Davis says there’s one thing that made the house look enticing enough to take what they could.

“There was a realtors sign in the front yard because the house is listed for sale and there was a key box on the door. I guess it looked like the house might’ve been vacant, because there were no cars in the driveway, and it appeared to be a crime of opportunity,” Sgt. Davis said.

And he has this message for people who are expecting to get anything in the mail anytime soon.

“If you have packages that need to be delivered, try to make sure somebody is at home to pick them up or maybe schedule a specific time for delivery,” he said.

Sgt. Davis says they’re checking other video cameras in the area.

They’re hoping to get a tag or license plate number or hoping anyone with information calls them with any tips or leads.

If caught, Sgt. Davis says the suspect could be charged with theft by taking and criminal intent to commit burglary.
