Golf tournament to raise money for Pooler Lions Club

Chipping for Charity will be four person scramble

Chipping for Charity with the Pooler Lions Club

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Pooler Lions Club will hold the 6th Annual Chipping for Charity Golf Tournament May 1.

Over 114 golfers have already registered for the four person scramble. That’s compared to the 68 that participated in 2019.

The golf tournament is the organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Like many other events, it was canceled last year because of COVID-19.

“It’s a lot of fun to get out there with people who are service oriented, who want to really support the community in many ways. Just the heart of the people who showed up makes it so much fun, and we’re excited for everyone who’s showing up this year,” Pooler Lions Club President Karla Italiano said.

The money raised at Chipping for Charity will support a variety of causes in the Chatham County community.

“The Lions Club is most known for vision. We offer visions screenings to the community and to schools,” Italiano said. “But vision is just one of five areas we focus on, and that includes diabetes, the environment, hunger and childhood cancer.”

The tournament will follow COVID-19 guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control as well as local and state authorities.

The event is very close to capacity, so online registration has closed, but you can still sign up or get on the wait list by calling in. You can sign up as a team, or organizers can assign you to one.

The Pooler Lions Club is also still looking for sponsors for this event.
