Savannah man charged after fleeing crash scene on Wheaton St.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - UPDATE: Savannah Police have charged Bobby Robinson, 39, of Savannah after he allegedly fled from the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Wheaton Street on Tuesday, according to a release from the police department. Robinson has been charged with serious injury by motor vehicle, hit and run with injuries, DUI-less safe and failure to yield while crossing a roadway.

Savannah Police responded to the crash shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday night. A Buick Regal was crossing Wheaton Street from a parking lot towards Cedar Street when a Mercury Mariner crashed into the Buick after it was unable to stop, according to the release.

Savannah Fire extricated a passenger from the Buick who was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Mercury received minor injuries in the crash. Responding officers realized the driver of the Buick was not on scene when they arrived, according to the release.

Wheaton Street reopened near Cedar Street after Savannah Police conducted an initial investigation. The Traffic Investigation Unit continues its investigation.
