CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Chatham County Commission Chairman Chester Ellis confirmed that the commission has rescinded the county’s mask mandate.

According to a news release from the county, the mask order was rescinded in compliance with Gov. Brian Kemp’s threshold requirements to have a local face covering requirement. Chatham County’s Community Transmission Index rate dropped below the threshold of 100 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents this week.

Chairman Ellis strongly encourages all citizens, workers and visitors in Chatham County to get vaccinated and to support practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Masks and social distancing are encouraged as well as maintaining the practice of washing your hands often with soap and water.

Chatham County will still require masks to be worn in all county facilities.

Savannah City Council voted Thursday to extend its mask mandate until May 31.
