Savannah’s film industry bouncing back from pandemic struggles
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Film experts in our area say the industry is bouncing back.
In fact, the Savannah Regional Film Commission says a new television series is on its way to the Hostess City and surrounding areas. The Savannah Regional Film Commission says the True Crime series is called ‘The Girl From Plainville.’
You’ll be able to watch it on Hulu.
The Savannah Regional Film Commission says things have picked up a great deal since the beginning of the year and they’ve had more inquires from people wanting to come here to film than ever before.
Local filmmaker Comia Flynn has experience in styling and has also been in a few films as an extra. Additionally she works as a Marketing Consultant for Kirschner Furs on Bull Street.
She says when production companies come to town and are looking to film period pieces, they come there to get their costume needs. She’s also working on her own film and says it’s great to hear things are moving in a positive direction.
“You don’t realize how much you miss something until you cannot do it physically because Zoom just does not compare to being in person with other actors and actresses in the industry and where you can sit down and do table reads. So I’m so glad that we’re moving forward in this forward momentum and I just pray that continues because it’s so important,” said Flynn.
“The industry as a whole has picked up worldwide. A lot of content that needs to be created, time that’s been lost needs to be made up so we’re seeing the impact of that. Every week we get calls about shows coming even looking into 2022,” said Beth Nelson, Executive Director of the Savannah Regional Film Commission.
The Savannah Regional Film Commission says filming for the the true crime series will begin in August. Crews will be filming all over Chatham County from Bloomingdale to Tybee Island and in between.
The series is currently looking for extras! You can find more information on Bill Marinella Casting in Savannah’s Facebook.
