Top Teacher: Bailey Thornton
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Bailey Thornton is reading Mr. Popper’s Penguins with her 4th grade class at Calvary Day School in Savannah.
“I always wanted to be a teacher. I would play school. It was just something I did. I would grade papers, I would actually grade them myself,” Thornton said.
This is a school she knows well because it’s where she graduated from.
“Being able to share my love of teaching but being able to share my love of Christ with the kids too has been great, pretty awesome,” she said.
Thornton has been teaching for four years and loves seeing those light bulb moments with her students.
“I have a sign in my room, that mistakes are proof of trying, I’m ok with you making mistakes, I push you because I love you. I love these kids, I love them as a person, building those relationships is the biggest thing, the biggest part of teaching,” Thornton said.
“Mrs. Thornton, she makes school fun and I really enjoy it. She’s one of the best teachers I’ve had in a long time,” her student, Radley Worthington said.
“I’m their biggest cheerleader. That I care about them, I remember the teachers that were the biggest influence in my life, and I hope to be that in their life,” Thornton said.
