NWS releases finding on the deadly Bryan County tornado

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The National Weather Service in Charleston has released their initial findings from the Tuesday tornado in Bryan County. They say the tornado started near the Bryan County Courthouse in Pembroke around 5:19pm. It crossed over HWY 280 moving to the northeast. It reached peak intensity over the Park Place Subdivision area where several structures were completely destroyed. It destroyed several mobile homes where there was one fatality. The storm passed along the north end of the Black Creek Golf Course before crossing over I16. The tornado dissipated at 5:33pm just east of I16 and south of HWY 280.

The tornado traveled 11 miles and reached winds at 165 mph with a maximum width of 1300 yards. The NWS is still reviewing all the damage and they say the winds may be adjusted as needed. EF4 winds begin at 166 mph
