Round three of the RBC Heritage took place Saturday
HILTON HEAD, S.C. (WTOC) - Saturday was plaid nation day from Harbour Town before someone puts on that famous tartan jacket on Sunday.
On hole 9 Harold Varner the third with a nice shot out of the bunker, he would birdie putt to get to five under on the day and he had five birdies on the front nine.
Erik Van Rooyan on 11, here’s the birdie putt to go to 10 under on the week.
Jordan Spieth on 15, a par five, he has this 21-foot shot from off the green to get to nine under.
Van Rooyen on the par-4 16th hole 34-foot putt just a little short he would tap it in for par to stay at 4 under on the round.
Patrick Cantalay was the leader heading into the day, he birdie putts on 9 to tie the lead at 10-under.
Varner with back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16.
This one on 16 would move him to 11 under through three he would head to the clubhouse as the solo leader and said he’s just going to try to relax with family and watch basketball until the final round.
“I think having a clean card was really what I wanted to do, just give myself a lot of looks. I think I was able to do that a lot and executed some putts as well. It was a lot of fun,” Harold Varner III said.
Savannah-native Brian Harman moved up 8 spots on the leaderboard ending his third round tied for 48th at 3 under on the week round three he carded a 68.
Taking a look, at the third-round leaderboard, Varner in solo first at 11 under Shane Lowry, Erik van Rooyen and Patrick Cantlay each one shot back.
Lowry shooting a 65.
Four players are tied for fifth at 9 under two former Georgia Bulldogs Hudson Swofford and Sepp Straka and Georgia Tech alum Matt Kuchar along with Aaron Wise.
Four players tied for 9th, 3 shots off the lead including Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood.
Some final round pairings and tee times, Harman and Collin Morikawa get going at 9:50 a.m. and the final four groupings, Straka and Wise at 1:20 p.m.
Swafford and Kuchar tee off at 1:30 p.m. Van Rooyen and Cantlay go off and Lowry and Varner round it out at 1:50.
Over in Athens at Georgia’s G-Day spring football game the players were presented with their national championship rings and they played some football.
Stetson Bennett threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns putting an end to spring ball. An early start for the final round, players go off at 7:50 a.m. at Harbour Town.
