RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WTOC) - No injuries have been reported after an explosion at a home in Bryan County.

Bryan County Fire responded to a home on Demeries Lake Lane after 5 a.m. Friday. Firefighters at the scene told WTOC that everyone made it out of the home safely.

A battalion chief said the cause of the explosion is unknown and is under investigation.

The homeowner said her family just moved in the day before.

Several agencies including Bryan County Fire, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and explosion investigators have been trying to piece together what happened. The house is still intact with damage to the garage area and also to the side, back and roof. A Chatham County Sheriff’s K-9 unit was also helping with explosive detection dogs.

What stumped several people living in the area is there was clearly an explosion, but no fire or smoke, which investigators say is rare.

“Right now, we got a bunch of different blast patterns. We are looking at things like that. Like I said, it’s still under investigation,” a Bryan County Fire battalion chief said.

ATF investigators say they’re looking into every possibility.

Neighbors said the explosion was so loud it sounded like a plane crash and felt like an earthquake.

Terry Lemmons said he rushed down here when he heard the boom.

“My wife and I were in bed when we heard an explosion. We got up and looked at each other speculating, ‘what is that?’ But we really didn’t do anything right then, so I got up and we heard the ambulances and fire trucks,” Lemmons said.

He said the house has been here for at least 15 years.
