BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A fire at a trash company on Highway 301 in Bulloch County blocked traffic for several hours.

The smoke poured from the warehouse building at All Green Services and filled the sky along Highway 301 on Thursday morning.

“I came off the interstate and saw the smoke and thought, ‘Oh wow, there’s a fire somewhere’” truck driver Andre Adamson said.

The fire ignited tons of solid waste stored inside the warehouse. Fire crews worked to put as much water on it as they could.

“The hard part now is working your way through all the trash - truly trash- and get all the hot spots out,” Bulloch County Fire Department Chief Ben Tapley said.

With the hydrant on the opposite side of the road, they had to run a 5-inch hose across four lanes of traffic. That had traffic, especially northbound from Interstate 16 backed up more than a mile.

Adamson said he led an effort to move the hose over enough that traffic - especially the trucks - could make a U-turn and find a detour.

“Had to do something. Just had to see the little bit I could offer to help all the motorists and trucks go by for a U-turn to reroute and get to our destination,” Adamson said.

Crews got the fire contained and started using tanker trucks so they could move the hose and reopen the road.
