SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah Ghost Pirates hit the ice of Enmarket Arena on Friday night to begin the 2023/24 ECHL season.

The Ghost Pirates dropped the puck on their second season playing the Norfolk Admirals for the first time.

Fans swarmed the arena for a game they’ve been waiting for since last season ended.

Celebrations started hours before the first period, with a local fan group putting together a tailgate with food, drinks and all things Ghost Pirates.

“So you know it’s a Facebook page, called Ghost Pirates Puckheads, and we pretty much just coordinate, get togethers, anybody’s welcome. We’ll even invite the other team’s fans. They’re more than welcome to come out and have a good time with us. It’s all about just having fun and going to watch some hockey.”

The Ghost Pirates led 2 to 0 into the third period before Norfolk tied it up, sending the game into overtime.

The Pirates went on to win 3 to 2.
