BLUFFTON, Sc. (WTOC) - The Bluffton Township Fire District was on the scene of a house fire Saturday evening.

The fire was in the Heritage at New Riverside subdivision. Bluffton Township Fire District says all occupants evacuated the house and are safe

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Several engines responded to the call Saturday night to a home in the Heritage at New Riverside subdivision.

When they arrived, they say they saw that the fire had broken out outside near the back of the house, damaging the outside and the attic. Crews acted quickly to put out the fire in less than 10 minutes.

Luckily, the only person inside the house at the time heard the smoke alarms and went outside immediately, keeping them safe.

Once the fire was contained and put out, crews continued their investigation.

“Our three priorities for any fire scene is life safety. Making sure that there’s nobody in the residence, including pets or people. Our second priority is to make sure that the property itself is contained as much as possible. And then, our resource management, you know, making sure that fire officers and personnel on scene are safe,” Bluffton Township Fire District information officer Stephen Combs said.

As it’s starting to get colder outside, and the holiday season is approaching, Combs says it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on things like space heaters, extension cords and indoor and outdoor lights and decorations.
