Woman reunites with grandmother at hospital after helping save her during ferry dock collapse
BRUNSWICK, Ga. (CNN) - Two women who shared an emotional experience were reunited in a Georgia hospital.
Bertha McKnight was among those who needed to be rescued after Saturday’s partial ferry dock collapse on Sapelo Island on the state’s coast.
Catherine Sneed, who was home on a break from college, heard the 80-year-old McKnight in distress in the water that day.
That’s when she grabbed McKnight’s hand and held onto it for about 15 minutes.
Another person arrived at the scene with a life jacket and helped pull McKnight out of the water.
Once McKnight was safe, Sneed helped walk her to the ferry and stayed with her until an ambulance arrived.
This week, the two reunited for the first time after McKnight was checked into the hospital. They were able to hold each other’s hand once again.
Sadly. authorities said others weren’t as lucky with seven people confirmed dead in the dock collapse.
