Savannah Police make arrest in deadly W. 61st St. shooting

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah Police Department has made an arrest in a deadly March 9, 2024 shooting.

Leearnell Williams, 34, was arrested in connection to the shooting that happened in the 200 block of W. 61st Street.

Williams has been charged with murder and aggravated assault.

Police say they responded to the scene based on a ShotSpotter report at around 10 p.m. and discovered the victim suffering from a serious gunshot wound.

The victim later died from their injuries at the hospital.

“I’m proud of the hard work our officers and detectives put into this case,” said Lenny B. Gunther, Savannah Police Chief. “I think it is a reminder to our communities that we will actively and aggressively pursue anyone who inflicts gun violence on our city.”
