Dexter Williams II enters transfer portal, no longer on Georgia Southern Football team

STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) - Georgia Southern quarterback Dexter Williams II has entered the transfer portal, he tells WTOC.
Williams transferred to Statesboro in the offseason from Indiana. He began the season as the third-string quarterback behind JC French and David Dallas. Williams became the predominant second-stringer with Dallas missing much of the season due to a shoulder injury.
Williams has seen parts of five games this fall. In his limited opportunities, Williams completed 19 of 30 passes for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns. He added 45 yards and 1 touchdown on the ground.
His most memorable appearance came against Marshall when he led the Eagles to a 20-point fourth quarter comeback, completing 10 of 14 passes for 135 yards. He also played most of the fourth quarter at South Alabama, captaining the game-winning drive. Both opportunities came when starter JC French was knocked out with an injury.
Williams will transfer with one year of eligibility remaining, with the chance for a second year if medical waivers clear. Williams had two knee surgeries in three seasons while at Indiana.
Georgia Southern has a bye this weekend before welcoming Troy to Paulson Stadium on Saturday, November 16th. Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
