Brixie, the dog brutally beaten for eating her owner’s pizza, gets her own pizza party
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) – A dog who was beaten for eating her owner’s pizza is now being celebrated with a pizza party of her own.
Brixie is an 11-month-old puppy who is now in the care of Tails of Hope Dog Rescue in Memphis, Tennessee.
She drew public attention in March when a video went viral of a man beating her in the back of a car in a parking lot when she was 8 months old. Brixie was allegedly beaten because she ate his pizza that had been left in the car.
Thanks to social media tips, the rescue said police were able to identify the man as Justin Johnson, 34. A warrant has been issued for aggravated animal cruelty, but as of Friday, he hasn’t been found.
According to the shelter, Brixie suffered two broken hips and other injuries, including a human bite that required 20 stitches and lacerations all over her body.
Thankfully, under the care of Tails of Hope, she’s recovering and now being spoiled with her very own pizza party.
The party was held last week at a Mellow Mushroom in Germantown, Tennessee.
Brixie was treated to plenty of pizza, and community members were encouraged to show up to meet her and snag limited-edition Brixie merch.
In addition to being a fun celebration for all, the event helped to raise donations for Brixie’s medical expenses after she suffered serious injuries from her former owner.
Tails of Hope said Brixie has one more surgery left. She is also undergoing physical therapy.
In addition to her injuries, the shelter said Brixie is also positive for two tick-borne diseases.
The initial estimated cost of her medical care totals $7,800.
“She has been through unthinkable cruelty, yet she is still full of love,” the shelter wrote on Brixie’s bio page. “Despite everything, her tail never stopped wagging, and she never stopped giving kisses. She radiates pure love. Brixie didn’t deserve what happened to her. No creature deserves to be abused.”
Currently, Brixie is not available for adoption while she is still under medical care.
