Church employee accused of sexually abusing 15-year-old boy
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) - An employee of a church in Tennessee was fired after being accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy.
According to a letter addressed to the Bellevue Baptist Church congregation, a 19-year-old male part-time employee of the church was fired after reports of sexual abuse.
Bellevue Baptist Church’s executive pastor Jason Pyron wrote the letter and disclosed that the employee is accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old boy who is also a member of the church.
“Church leadership has been made aware of an allegation of sexual abuse involving a minor and a 19-year-old part-time, hourly employee, both of whom are male. The alleged abuse is reported to have occurred when the minor was 15 years old,” the letter reads.
According to the letter, the church “immediately reported” the information to authorities and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
“Our hearts are with the student and family involved. We are committed to caring for them well and ask that you join us in praying for them during this incredibly difficult time,” Pyron wrote in the letter.
The church said out of respect for those involved and due to the ongoing investigation, it cannot share additional details.
“We do ask that you refrain from speculation or sharing unverified information, as this can cause further harm,” Pyron wrote.
