Man charged with murder in deadly Claxton shooting

CLAXTON, Ga. (WTOC) - The GBI has arrested and charged a 26-year-old man with murder in connection with a shooting death Sunday.

Javion Youmans, 26, of Claxton, was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in connection with the death of 19-year-old Jamari Johnson.

At about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Evans County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting at Iron Eagle located on Highway 280 in Claxton. When deputies arrived, they found the teen with a gunshot wound. The teen was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.

Johnson’s body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Pooler, where an autopsy will be conducted.

Youmans was booked into the Tattnall County Jail.
