6 kittens rescued, taken to cat sanctuary by Chatham County police officer
CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Six kittens were rescued by a Chatham County police officer and taken to a cat sanctuary, according to a post from the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD).
On Saturday, the department shared that an officer discovered the kittens in an overgrown area after hearing a strange noise while wrapping up a service call.
Noting that the cats did not appear feral and looked in need of food, medical care and a home, the officer spent her off-duty weekend trying to find a rescue shelter for the kittens. In the meantime, she continued to check on the cats with a few other officers to bring them food.
All About Cats, a cat sanctuary on Hilton Head Island, said that if she could safely trap and transport the kittens, their sanctuary would take care of the rest.
Multiple Chatham County officers helped her trap them, and they were successfully able to gather all six and take them to the sanctuary — including one stubborn kitten who seemed to want to stay out in the wild, the department said.
Savannah, Tybee, River, Ellis, Whitaker and Forsyth all passed their veterinary exams on Friday and were placed into foster homes until they can be adopted.
As of CCPD’s post on Saturday, two Chatham County officers are planning to adopt two of the kittens, giving them a fur-ever home.
