MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WFIE/Gray News) — A Kentucky doctor who accidentally left her grandchild unattended in a hot car for about eight hours will not be indicted for the baby’s death.

Madisonville police said 10-month-old Scottie Crowell died in August.

On Tuesday, a grand jury found there was insufficient probable cause for an indictment.

Police said Scottie’s grandmother picked her up in the morning of Aug. 13 and was supposed to take her to daycare.

She forgot the child was in the car and went to work, police said.

She arrived at Owensboro Health Multi-Care, where she works as a doctor, around 8 a.m.

The baby’s father called his wife after trying to pick up Scottie from daycare, but the child was not there.

The baby’s mother called the grandmother at work, and the grandmother ran outside and saw Scottie was still in the vehicle around 4 p.m., police said.

After 911 was called, first responders tried to administer lifesaving measures, but the baby died.

“I would ask that you keep the infant’s parents and family in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to grieve and process this unimaginable loss,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Hannah Kington-Jarvis.
