SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The 165th Airlift Wing reported that seven future Airmen took the oath of enlistment during the Savannah Ghost Pirates game on Friday, November 6.

It was part of the Ghost Pirates’ “Military Appreciation Weekend.”

U.S. Air Force Col. Puanani P. Miller, deputy commander of the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard, administered the oath on the ice.

“The highlight for me was witnessing the enthusiasm of our newest recruits as they embark on the beginning of their military careers,” said Miller. “It is an honor to be a part of welcoming these future Airmen to the 165th Airlift Wing.”

The 165th Airlift Wing, which has been co-located at the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport for 80 years, works to foster its connection with the Savannah community while helping raise awareness of the opportunities available through military service right here at home, they wrote.

“Hosting the enlistment ceremony during a community event like this offered a unique setting to recognize the seven future Airmen as they take this important step,” they wrote.

Those interested in learning more about service opportunities with the Georgia Air National Guard can contact the wing’s recruiting team.

“Community ceremonies of this caliber strengthen the bond between our service members and the public we defend,” said Miller. “As the audience listened to new enlistees take their oath it served as a powerful reminder of the weight and honor of military service.”
