The 2009 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament will be held during the week of April 20-26 at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa in Savannah, GA. The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf is a part of the PGA TOUR Champion's Tour, and is considered the tournament that launched the tour for professionals 50 and over. The unique tournament format consists of three separate two-man team better-ball events; the Legends, Raphael and Demaret Divisions.
It is the tournament's 30th year partnering with title sponsor Liberty Mutual Group, the longest-running title sponsor on the Champions Tour and the second longest in golf.
Andy North and Tom Watson were the 2008 tournament champions in the Legends Division. The duo finished with a 31-under 185 total, just edging out Jeff Sluman and Craig Stadler by one stroke for the win, followed by Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam at 29-under. North and Watson join the ranks of past champions Jay Haas, Hale Irwin, Bruce Lietzke and Lee Trevino among many notable others. The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf was first played in 1978 in Austin, Texas, and came to Savannah in 2003 where it has since enjoyed great success. The tournament has donated over $1.2 million to local charities during its six years in Savannah. The City of Savannah and golf fans from around the region look forward to the tournament returning in 2009.
