APPLING, GA (AP) - A mother and her 20-year-old son have been indicted on charges they robbed and killed a next door neighbor.
A Columbia County grand jury indicted 41-year-old Rebecca Sears and her son, Christopher Bowers, in the March 25 death of 41-year-old Laverne "Kay" Parsons.
Police say Sears and Bowers beat Parsons to death with a bat and claw hammer before stealing a gold necklace and watch from her Grovetown home.
Authorities say later the pair tried to confuse police by staging Sears' shooting outside her workplace the next day. Police say Bowers gave his mother a superficial wound in her leg.
The pair are being held in the Columbia County jail without bond.
