BROOKLET, GA (WTOC) - They hit, they field, they throw and they win...
They are an 18 and under all star team with a mixture of talent from all over the area, they come together to form the East Georgia Thunder.
"We have girls from up as far as West Laurens and Dublin, Richmond Hill, Portal, Bryan County, Effingham, South Effingham, Bulloch Academy, Southeast Bulloch, Calvary Baptist are our girls. We have girls from quite a wide array of schools." says Head Coach, Charlie Salzman.
And they're going where no other 18 and under team in our area has gone before, to the ASA Nationals.
"I'm so excited," says Anna Hall, who plays firstbase for the East Georgia Thunder and is going into her senior year at Calvary, "all of our hard work finally paid off. It's just cool that we're one of the first teams to ever make it."
Casey Johnson just graduated from South Effingham and she is a pitcher and plays second, "It's really exciting, we worked so hard for it and just actually getting there and being able to do it, is so exciting."
There's no secret recipe to their success...it's good 'ol fashioned hard work.
"We all get along, we're like a little family." says Bridget Bacon, who goes to Bryan County High School and plays third. "We love coming to practice, we joke around, but we all work hard at practice."
"We work hard." adds Hall, "Even off the field we're best friends. And we bond."
And don't forget talent...there are 5 seniors on this team that have signed scholarships to play college softball next year.
"If you want to take the step to the next level, you need to play travel ball." says Hall.
