SAVANNAH, GEORGIA – February 27, 2004 – Chatham Area Transit officials announced today that the St. Patrick’s Day PARK & RIDE shuttle service from Oglethorpe Mall to Oglethorpe at Price Streets in downtown Savannah will be in service on March 17, 2004. The public is asked to note that the staging area at the mall is under the rear parking deck adjacent to J.C. Penney.
Shuttle tokens will be available for $1.00 each at the shuttle staging area. Tokens will be sold from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and the public is encouraged to purchase them at the shuttle staging site for the return trip from Oglethorpe and Price Streets. The shuttle will operate from 7:30 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. After 5:00 p.m., passengers may catch any regularly scheduled 4-Barnard, 14-Abercorn, 27/28-Waters Road from MLK, Jr. Blvd. and Broughton Street back to the Oglethorpe Mall area. Two additional runs (11:02 p.m. and 11:42 p.m.) have been added to the 14-Abercorn departing from MLK, Jr. and Broughton St. on St. Patrick’s Day ONLY. These buses arrive at the Oglethorpe Mall area at 11:40 p.m. and 12:10 a.m. respectively.
In addition to the St. Patrick's Day shuttle, the public is encouraged to catch a regularly scheduled bus from their neighborhood. Bus stop locations are conveniently located and are marked by a bus stop sign, an orange BUS STOP standard, or an orange band painted on a utility pole.
t color="#006633">Each of the routes listed below goes to downtown Savannah to the Broughton/MLK, Jr. Blvd. vicinity.
Wilmington Island residents can catch the 10-East Savannah and the 24-Savannah State/Wilmington Island from the Island Towne Centre area.
From the Savannah Festival Factory Outlet/Hwy. 17-Hwy. 204 Super Wal-Mart area, passengers may catch route 17-Silk Hope/Savannah Festival Outlet.
Southside residents may catch the 14-Abercorn bus from the Savannah Mall area or from the bus stop at the rear of Savannah Mall.
The Skidaway Road area is served by the 11 Candler and 31-Georgia Regional bus.
The Waters Road area is served by the 27 Waters Road or 28-Waters Road bus.
Westside residents will find the 2-West Chatham or 3-Augusta Avenue bus a convenient way to get downtown.
On St. Patrick's Day, all fixed-route service is on a weekday schedule. CAT offices are opened from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for ticket/token/swipe card sales. CAT Central, 124 Bull Street, will be opened from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Telephone schedule information will be available from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Due to the parade, buses in downtown will detour from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 12:30 p.m. and certain bus stops along the parade route will not be served between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Also, the downtown CAT Shuttle in Historic Savannah will NOT be in service on St. Patrick's Day; however, the downtown shuttle will resume service on Thursday, March 18, 2004.
In addition, the Savannah Belles Ferry will be operating from 7:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day. Round trip fare on the ferries is $1.00 per person. Exact change is required. The Savannah International Trade & Convention Center’s parking lot will be open on Wednesday, March 17, 2004. Parking fee is $5.00 for all day.
