Statesboro residents captivated by snow

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - As the flurries arrived around sundown, people of all ages stopped to enjoy the unbelievable sight.

"I've never seen snow a day in my life and I'm almost 20," said Whitney Grant of Hinesville. "Oh my goodness."

The snow seemed to captivate everyone.

When asked what he was going to do with the snow, Plez Mallard of Statesboro said he was going to stand outside and catch it.

Lif Mallard of Statesboro anticipated a snowball fight.

The last time it snowed here like this in the Savannah area was December 1989. On Friday, it looked like someone took a snow globe of the Bulloch County courthouse and shook it.

At Georgia Southern University, college students took in a little of the wonder and felt like kids again.

"Now that it's snowing more, I'm getting excited," said GSU student Sara Whaley. "I hope it sticks so we can play tomorrow...most definitely."

The excitement over a couple of inches of snow might seem funny to others who live through it all winter but for others it is different.

"Any time you can make a snowball, it's snow," said Patrick Mallard of Statesboro. "We enjoy it more than other folks do because it happens so infrequently."

Many will enjoy the snow while they can and wonder how long it will be before they see it again.
