SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Veterans Day is exactly one month away and the Azalea Inn and Gardens, a popular bed and breakfast right in the heart of Savannah, will give Veterans a place to stay as a way to say thank you.

Owner and veteran Teresa Jacobson wanted to do something for the military on Veterans Day so she joined a national grassroots project giving them a place to stay on the upcoming national holiday.

"They'll be spending the night of November 10 with us and when they arrive they will be shown to their room and we going to have a wine reception for them," said Jacobson.

Teresa has a long history with the military both grandfathers in World War I. Her father spent 20 years with the Air Force, her sister joined the Air Force and she joined the Army.

She says growing up in a military family, she moved all over the world.

"I know it can be very lonely and people don't always say thank you," said Jacobson.

"This is our little way of saying thank you and paying tribute to our fathers and our grandfathers," said Jacobson.

Teresa says she's thrilled and honored she will be able to give back to our heroes.

"America was built on people who were willing to fight for our freedom," said Jacobson.

Now she hopes other bed and breakfasts will join in.

"I think we should all be stepping up and saying thank you,"said Jacobson.

Allowing them to sit back and enjoy some southern hospitality.

"It will be a nice I hope relaxing and unforgettable time for them,"said Jacobson.

Four bed and breakfast inns in Savannah donated rooms. All are booked and many have waiting lists.
