BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - A little more than a year ago, two Beaufort military mothers joined together to help give troops overseas some comforts of home. It's hard to believe how far Pillows for Patriots has come.

Harris Pillow Supply in Beaufort is a busy place these days. They've been on a mission making thousands of these camouflage pillows to send to servicemen and woman overseas as part of Pillows for Patriots.

"They'll sleep better, so we'll sleep better," said Barb Farrior.

Farrior came up with the idea when her son Justin was leaving for his third tour in the Middle East.

"I wanted to initially do something for my son and his company," Farrior said. " I very deeply believe in supporting our troops over there. They leave behind everything they have ever worked for, everything they love and go over to Afghanistan and fight for our country."

Jenny Bush is also a military mom and has been on board since the beginning, hoping to help those serving overseas rest a little easier.

"They go out on foot patrols, sometimes overnight for long periods of time, and I think having that pillow in their sack gives them a little bit of adrenaline break, where as they might be sleeping on a rock, now they have something to put their head on at night," said Bush.

Harris Pillow Supply donated the first 150 pillows and have been making the rest as the donations come in.

"We're honored to be able to give something back to these guys that are defending our country," said Patrick Harris.

Since this mission began, they've raised more than $50,000 and shipped more than 23,000 pillows.

"The thank yous we've received have been endearing," said Farrior. "I even got a phone call from a lieutenant in Afghanistan that called me and used his telephone time to call and say 'thank you'".

It's a thank you these women take to heart knowing they're making a difference for those fighting for their country every day and night.

Farrior said they've received all kinds of support for this effort. She said Moss Creek Marines have been instrumental in this helping their efforts and getting the pillows in the hands of Marines.

They've received donations from all over the country.
