SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Joe Steffen Jr. was sworn in Thursday as the new chairman of the Chatham County Elections Board.

Judge Tammy Stokes did the honors in her chambers at the county courthouse. Steffen Jr.'s election marked the first time in a generation that two Republican and two Democratic members of the board unanimously selected someone to oversee it, which Steffen Jr. says means protecting the integrity of the election process.

"I don't know that there are any ongoing pressing concerns other than the fact that making sure that the election process is open to everybody, making sure that it's conducted in a fair way so people have faith in the election process," Steffen Jr. said.

He will oversee his first board meeting on Monday.
