SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Meals on Wheels program of Senior Citizens Inc. receives donation from River Street Sweets.

The company donated 10 cases, filled boxed candy as an Easter treat for Meals on Wheels clients of Senior Citizens Inc.

Meals on Wheels delivers more than 1,800 hot, nutritionally balanced meals each day to seniors throughout a six-county area of coastal Georgia.

"We donate to Senior Citizens, Inc. because we really identify with their mission to help people age successfully. Our grandmother, Georgia Nash, is still fiercely independent and has aged beautifully. We are aware that many elderly people are not so lucky," said Jennifer Strickland, owner of River Street Sweets, in a statemetn. "By donating candy to the folks on the Meals on Wheels route, we hope that their Easter season is a little happier and that they know they are cared about."

The Meals on Wheels program has a dedicated corps of volunteers.

An average of thirty-two volunteers per day spend approximately one hour of their time delivering Meals on Wheels, according to the organization.
