Port Royal students thrilled that school will remain open

PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) - The Beaufort County School Board recently made some tough decisions as they voted to close a number of schools for next school year. Schools closing include Shell Point Elementary School, St. Helena Early Learning Center, and James J. Davis Early Learning Center.

Port Royal Elementary School was also on the chopping block, but the board unanimously voted to keep it open. The school will celebrate its 100 year anniversary in September. Many were thrilled that the school will remain open as they walked into school on Aug. 15.

"It's 100 year old, I love it so much and it's my favorite school," said Port Royal student Adora Emery.

"It's very fun and the teachers are so nice," said Port Royal student Diamong Young.

"I've never seen parents, faculty, staff and kids so excited to come back," said Port Royal student Jo Shirley.
