SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Georgia Power is trying to put people at ease about a recent emergency. The Company President, Paul Bowers, addressed the Savannah South Rotary on Oct. 4. He said that the tritium leak at Plant Hatch in Baxley has been contained at the source of the leak and repairs to the broken pipe will be completed within days. Bowers also said Plant Hatch remains one of the best and safest plants in America.

"We continue to have audits of that plant to ensure its safety. The whole Nuclear Regulatory Commission is evaluating how we respond to any type of event that might occur around these plants. After Fukushima, of course, elevated concern about safety and we are focused on making sure every day this plant is safe," said Bowers.

The leak occurred in an underground pipe and officials announced earlier that it posed no threat to people.
