SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Ellis Square was the place for music fans to be Oct. 7. That's where the annual Savannah Folk Music Festival kicked off.

Saturday and Sunday will be filled with music performances in Forsyth Park. The event is free to the public and will be full of top folk performers. There will also be a silent auction with guitars and unique art signed by celebrities.

Tom Chapin, The April Verch Band, Boo Hanks and Four Shillings Short are some of the name performers participating in the festival.

"It's great music and you can hear it in the background. This is the blues. A great part of folk music. Toe tapping, heart rendering great music. Clearly you can hear the words. You can hear the music. It's the real deal," said Hank Weisman, Savannah Folk Music Society President.

The festival will continue 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Ardsley Park. Visit for a full schedule of events.
