HARDEEVILLE, SC (WTOC) - Could legal gambling be on its way to South Carolina?

In Jasper County there's now a proposal for a casino and an entertainment complex near Hardeeville just off of Highway 278 in Hilton Head Lakes. It would be the first casino in South Carolina.

Hardeeville City Council members say they love the idea and have signed a resolution to move forward.

The resort would be owned by the United Keetoowa Band of Cherokee Indians, which has history in South Carolina.

It would generate nearly $100 million in wages, salaries, and benefits according to an economic impact study.

The governor first has to sign off on it and then it could take more than a year to get permits plus years of construction time.
