Police investigating deadly shooting on Adventure in Beaufort

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - Beaufort Police Officers were called to a report of a gunshot victim at 610 Adventure St. at 4:53 a.m.

Witnesses told police they heard gunshot noises and saw a man leave the scene on foot.

Police found a 48 year old man in the residence who had been fatally shot.

Additional witnesses reported to police that they saw a suspicious person fitting the suspect's description near some apartments in the 1900 block of Duke Street.

The officer spotted the suspect lying down in a wooded area and ended up getting in a foot chase with him, but lost him.

The suspect was thought to be hiding in the attic of an abandoned house.

Beaufort Police, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and Port Royal Police units set up a containment perimeter around the area.

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office SWAT and K-9 units searched the house but the suspect was not located.

The investigation is still in progress.

The suspect is described as a tall African –American man with dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey and jeans.
