Port Royal wetlands project moves forward

PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) - The Cypress Wetlands Restoration Project not only addresses storm water concerns but will add new amenities to the town, including a new amphitheater that will hold nearly 200 people, a half mile loop pathway around the wetlands and signage with information about the birds, animals, and plant species in the wetlands.

"We wanted to take advantage of it primarily because it can handle storm water," said Town Manager Van Willis. "Obviously storm water is an important issue in Beaufort County and we also realized we had something special here that was truly unique that wasn't being properly utilized and this was a great way for us to show it off.

The project is expected to be complete in April.
